Hi youre looking at my listing for a JVC DLA (Reference Series) RS1X full HD1080p home cinema projector. This projector is in excellent condition, (it still looks like new as per my photos) and comes with original remote control, power cable and instructions. This projector has been ceiling mounted out of harms way and is 100% functional with no operational or image issues whatsoever. It has recently had a full diagnostic inspection byJVCs approved UK centre Sontec Electronics and has had the duct cooling fan replaced (as the fan bearing was beginning to whine a bit, I have the receipt to prove its recent replacement and confirmation of the projectors satisfactory performance upon diagnostic test by Sontec), this will be included in the sale. The projector has also recently had a prism clean to ensure that the optics and general performance is 100%. The amazon box in the photo contains the new unopened bulb. Bulb life on these units is typically around 2,000 hours and on the current bulb the bulb life indicator shows about 90 hours but it had 904 on it prior to that before a lamp counter reset was done as part of the recent diagnostic / service work on this unit. Apart from different coloured external casings they are the same projector so when you look up any reviews please keep this in mind. This RS1X version I have for sale has an identical technical spec to the HD1 and RS1u but improves on them as it includes user menu control over the picture gamma settings that was not available on the original models plus HDMI 1.3 capable inputs supporting deep colour as opposed to the1.2a versions on earlier models. As the direct predecessor to this RS1X projector the JVC DLA HD1 / RS1 was iconic in digital home cinema projection as when it was launched its levels of native 15000:1 contrast could only be bettered by 5 figure megabucks CRT projectors. High native contrast is one of the holy grails of home cinema as it indicates the projectors ability to display both light and dark content simultaneously on screen which is what makes the image on screen look detailed, 3 dimensional, dynamic and cinematic. Projectors with low native contrast will display blacks that look like washed out grey which makes space based sci-fi movies etc. You may well find lots of references to current projectors quoting higher contrast ratios than 15,000:1 but often these can be over inflated or use different means of measurement or involve a dynamic iris to fudge these figures. JVC if anything always tend to err on the conservative side when reporting their figures and when reviewers put them to the test they are often dead on or exceed the stated figures. A DLP projector I owned previously which is still available for sale new quotes an apparently higher 20,000:1 contrast figure but in a properly darkened room the JVCs realworld performance despite the numbers was in a different league altogether. Personally Im not a big fan of 3D projection and still find it a bit gimmicky and prefer not to have darkened glasses become a barrier between the viewer and the movie. Saying that this projector is better than most mid-range1080p 2D models currently for sale may sound like a bold claim but it is not only the high native contrast where this projector has advantages. Most mid-range projectors today are either DLP or 3 LCD technology based and both have unique advantages with DLP typically having more pop and dynamism to the image and 3LCD not being subject to the rainbow effect caused by the spinning colour wheel in DLP based machines. This JVC uses technology that they call DILA and is basically a blend of both 3LCD and DLP which takes the best features from each. Sonys higher end projectors also use a similar combination of the 2 technologies which they call LCOS. Mosquito or block noise and other image artefacts are also effectively non-existent on a DILA display (unless they are heavily present in the originally mastered material eg a blu ray movie or DVD). In addition if you search for reviews for JVC DLA HD1 or RS1 look for words in your search like analog and cinema or film like and youll find that what is said about these projectors is that the DILA technology is the one that most closely replicates the cinema film experience and is the one that looks least digital or artificial. This is down to another of the benefits of DILA technology which is that its pixel structure is very dense and has a high fill rate so that it is difficult to see gaps in the grid structure between the edges of individual pixels even when standing right next to the screen. So if you are after a high end, multi award winning, game changing 2d 1080p projector then look no further. This projector is a big beast, measuring in at 18x 46 x 45 cm and weighs in at 11.6kg befitting its flagship status and weighty high-end low dispersion all glass optics and is far removed from the current A4 or smaller footprint lightweight tabletop devices typically for sale. This large case also meant that this projector has 4 separate cooling fans which keep the bulb, electronics and optics individually separate and cool and through this fastidious approach to perfection means that the optical engine is sealed from the ingress of dust or contaminants that could otherwise affect picture quality and performance. Most affordable current projectors have a single small diameter fan that requires to run much faster and more noisily than the large slow moving fans in this high end piece of av kit. Look at sites like Whathifi, projectorreviews, Projectorcentral, Trustedreviews, CNet and cineforhome and youll see how well regarded this line of JVC projectors is. Youll also get the full spec of this machine off the. Pdf on the JVC website. · Lamp life High performance lamps burn out and require replacement. · Throw distance This is the minimum and maximum placement distance from which you can achieve a given size image. The Projectorcentral andJVC websites have throw distance calculators that will tell you what size screen you can achieve from any given distance. In my movie room I easily achieved a120 diagonal (16:9 widescreen format image) from a distance of about 13.5 feet. Thats a huge 10 foot diagonal image that will dwarf any large screen tv youll typically see on the high street. Please check that this projector is suitable for the room in which you intend to operate it and for the size of screen image you are looking to achieve. With its high quality 2.0x zoom and horizontal and vertical image shift its likely that if this wont work for you then youll have to settle for an ultra-short throw model that likely wont be in the same image quality / build league as this. 4:3 format projectors can often reformat their image to a 16:9 widescreen format but in doing so this further degrades the resolution and image quality. This JVC RS1X projector is a native full HD1080p and 16:9 ratio capable home cinema projector as standard. In my movie room I watch a 10 foot diagonal image from about 13.5 feet back from the screen. There are various calculators online that explain the benefits of different native resolutions such as 1080p full hd and 4k from different viewing distances which are based on assumptions of 20/20 vision which most of the population do not have. I have included a photo showing the calculator that shows that for a 120 screen you’d have to sit only 7 feet back from the screen with 20/20 vision to see the full benefits of 4k. I have just upgraded to another JVC full hd projector on the basis that I would see little or no resolution benefits to 4k in my room as at 7 feet from the screen Id be uncomfortably close for seeing the full edge to edge image. Typically when you get the wow factor from 4k on a huge tv in a store its usually because you are looking at the image from a ridiculously close viewing distance standing right in front of it that youd never practically view from in your home. What gives 4k tv the biggest wow in projection for some is often not so much the 4k resolution but the HDR expanded colour spectrum that goes hand in hand with 4k displays. However in affordable 4k projectors this may not typically give you the wow factor it does with say a large 75 4k tv and may also often involve you having to adjust the 4k projector settings for each movie / movie studio as they can be recorded at different levels, (nits). This is all too fiddly and too costly for any limited benefit to 4k projection for me personally right now which is why Ive opted for another full hd JVC projector model as my new replacement for the foreseeable future, which is why this excellent JVC RS1X is for sale. Ironically in reviews at the time some purist reviewers made comment about the JVC being able to display a wider colour gamut than the then pre 4k industry standard rec709 format and that this then required user calibration to reign it back in and yet now a wider colour gamut is the big draw of 4k. This JVC wont give you a HDR colour gamut but for most itll punch above its weight against other 1080p machines whilst still maintaining colour balance such as accurate skin tones and a close to perfect 6500k colour temperature. · Operating noise If youve never owned a home theatre projector before then you should be aware that as the bulbs run at very high temperatures they require cooling fans to be running internally throughout their operation. These are noticeably noisier than a tv especially in quiet passages to movies. Whilst still audible when sitting directly beneath it with the low 8ft ceilings in my viewing room during silent passages of movies this is still very quiet, with anything that can get under 20db being effectively deemed to be silent in projector terms. Most sellers dont include images to show the projectors image capabilities but Ive included some in my listing. To get an idea of how big this image is look in the bottom left of the photos of the projected image and you’ll see my white desktop printer scanner for an idea of scale.
